"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5).
The Christian life is supernatural. It is involves more than a Christ-centered religion, it involves an experience of Christ living His life through our redeemed humanity. He is willing, able and present in our lives to respond to the challenges we are facing. He can take us beyond our natural pool of resources. We can transcend our own wisdom, temperament, aptitudes and strength.
It is one thing to walk in the Spirit on a pleasant country road when all is at rest. It is another thing to walk in the Spirit across the stressful intersections of life's most taxing situations. God gives grace to the humble. He will strengthen us for the higher challenge.
A personal trainer knows how to progressively develop the muscle of the trainee. Greater weights are added to the daily regimen to fit us for the load we eventually must bear. The Bible reminds us that God's people are in training for reigning. He is preparing us for a greater experience of His grace. He is empowering us to outrun the horses and pass through the thickets by the Jordan!
Prove the Lord where you are. Don't complain about your present exercise. Are you ready for a greater experience of Christ as your life? Let Him be your personal trainer and lift the bar to prepare you for the higher hurdles of life. David MacAdam, Pastor/Teacher New Life Community Church |
